Our Ocean Conference Commitments
(2015) New Zealand reaffirmed its intent to create a 620,000 square kilometer ocean sanctuary in the Kermadec region, covering 15 percent of New Zealand’s exclusive economic zone. The Kermadec Ocean Sanctuary will be one of the world’s largest and most significant fully protected areas, preserving important habitat for seabirds, whales, dolphins, endangered marine turtles, and thousands of species of fish and other marine life.
